Fair Trade Book Policy
Championing authors with a transparent, fair, and empowering model. Discover our commitment to a publishing ecosystem where creativity thrives and creators are valued.

kaOS exists to support authorship, reading, and publishing in a digital age. We believe creativity is cultural infrastructure—and creators deserve clear, timely, and fair compensation for their contributions.
We're just starting out, but from day one, we are guided by these core principles:
1. Creator-Aligned from the Core
Our tools help authors, editors, and curators publish and distribute work on their terms. Whenever there's revenue, our share is minimal and only ever taken after creators are paid. We currently follow this model:
- Digital books: 14% platform fee
- Physical/delivered works: 10% platform fee
- Processing fees: Passed through transparently (usually 3-6%)
The remaining majority goes directly to the creator or their publisher, and payouts happen quickly (our goal is daily).
2. Transparent and Comprehensible
No black boxes. No hidden fees. Each transaction can be audited and understood. Our aim is for the system to feel like a public utility: trustworthy, accountable, and legible.
3. We Grow Together
We only earn when creators earn significantly more. Our incentive is to build better discovery, community, and monetization tools—not to lock creators in.
4. Creator Ownership
All works published through kaOS remain 100% owned by the creator. Our goal is to help distribute, not to extract rights.
5. Sustainable Ecosystem
kaOS is open-source, multilingual, and community-driven. As we grow, we'll reinvest in tooling, accessibility, and cultural preservation, with Malaika as our AI agent helping to enhance discovery and accessibility.
